Programmatically registering a portlet?

Ok, I know this will sound strange and it may not be possible, but bear with me...

Using JBoss AS 4.0.3SP1 and JBoss Portal 2.2.1 I'm trying to figure out if I can, via code, register a Portlet (without using a WAR file, portlet.xml and whatnot).

Basically, what I'd like to do is deploy a portlet as a SAR (we're not using JSP as our rendering mechanism) with a dependency on the Portal SAR, and on start, programmatically add the contained portlets.

I think you can do it but you would have to look at JBoss Portal sourcecode to create a solution for that.

Try to have a look at the WebAppRegistry in the portlet module.
