inplaceInput control disappears if value is only spaces

Help. How do I display the inplaceInput control after a user enters only spaces.

Try this on:
http://livedemo.exadel.com/richfaces-demo/richfaces/inplaceInput.jsf?c=inplaceInput

Enter text with trailing spaces, then re-edit by deleting only the visible characters. You see that the control disappears.

Does anyone have a solution or workaround?

It turns out that in IE, if you click in just the right spot, you can redisplay the control. However, this is not the case in Firefox.

I take that back. It doesn't even work every time in IE.
