Portlet A modifies Portlet B

I've a portlet A that shows a JSP with a button. When i click the button, i want that this event makes portlet B (not A) enter in edit mode.

How can i make the portlet A, influence portlet B?

There are three ways I know about: 1) you can use JBoss portal propriatary IPC see: http://docs.jboss.org/jbportal/v2.4/reference-guide/en/html/ipc.html 2) You can use an application context attribute if the two portlets are packaged in the same WAR. 3) You can use JBoss Cache.
