1. Re: Components in JBoss Portal 2.7.2
peterj Mar 24, 2009 12:59 PM (in response to thegman)Web Services comes with AS, not Portal. So even using Portal 2.7.2 still has the same issue.

2. Re: Components in JBoss Portal 2.7.2
thegman Mar 24, 2009 4:37 PM (in response to thegman)Well that's included with the Portal bundle though. :o)
Just trying to figure out the best way to get this working as this is a real PITA bug. -
3. Re: Components in JBoss Portal 2.7.2
claprun Mar 25, 2009 8:37 AM (in response to thegman)The bundled version uses the latest available unmodified community version of JBoss AS (for the 4.2.x branch at this point) available when we release a new Portal version. Until JBoss AS includes the proper JBoss WS version, you are stuck with upgrading manually.
Now, if you had a support subscription, that would be a different issue... ;) -
4. Re: Components in JBoss Portal 2.7.2
thegman Mar 25, 2009 4:40 PM (in response to thegman)Can you get support subscriptions for the community releases or do you have to go with the enterprise edition to get that support?
The jboss.org pages say that by using the community edition you're basically on your own other than what's freely available online.
Just would like to clarify that position. -

prabhat.jha Mar 25, 2009 5:59 PM (in response to thegman)No, community version is not supported. You have to go with the enterprise edition to get support. Please see http://www.jboss.com/products/platforms/portals/

6. Re: Components in JBoss Portal 2.7.2
thegman Mar 25, 2009 6:25 PM (in response to thegman)Thanks. I suspected that.
Is there any difference between the two? I was told the enterprise edition is harder to configure, though I cannot be sure that's true. -

See the link that I sent you for the advantage with enterprise bits.I was told the enterprise edition is harder to configure, though I cannot be sure that's true.
I think that's completely baseless observation. Installation is simply matter of unzipping and any configuration change that you would do is as easy as community project. -
8. Re: Components in JBoss Portal 2.7.2
thegman Mar 25, 2009 6:38 PM (in response to thegman)Thanks for the reply. I already saw the checklist of differences so I think I was more concerned about the 'rumor' I heard.

9. Re: Components in JBoss Portal 2.7.2
thegman Mar 25, 2009 6:40 PM (in response to thegman)Sorry to be clear here.. I've been told the community edition has all the features of specifically portal already configured and more out of the box ready, verses the enterprise edition which takes 'longer' to set up and configure.
Is there any truth to that? -
10. Re: Components in JBoss Portal 2.7.2
prabhat.jha Mar 25, 2009 7:10 PM (in response to thegman)Why would we do that? Looks like you need to reassess who you hang out with. ;-)

12. Re: Components in JBoss Portal 2.7.2
peterj Mar 25, 2009 9:22 PM (in response to thegman)I think that the rumors you might have heard are related to JBoss AS and not JBoss Portal. The AS provided for subscribers, called JBoss EAP, has various services locked down. This is to prevent the unfortunate, but ubiquitous case, of people deploying a JBoss AS instance on the internet and failing to lock that instance down - without it being locked down anybody can do fun things such as bring the web site down. Since EAP is locked down, the admin is required to think about configuring security, but doing so is no different, or harder, than under AS.

13. Re: Components in JBoss Portal 2.7.2
theute Mar 26, 2009 2:10 AM (in response to thegman)Or the confusion comes from past portal platform (2.6) which didn't come as a bundle, current Enterprise Portal Platform 4.3 is a bundle and as Prabhat said, it's just a matter or downloading, unzipping and running (same as JBoss Portal bundle)
