In beta1, injection was only enabled during INVOKE_APPLICATION and RENDER_RESPONSE phases.
Try setting @Intercept(ALWAYS) -

@EmbeddableSuperclass
or
@Id(generate = GeneratorType.AUTO)
are those really gone from ejb3? -
