Richfaces components interacts with the sever side objects. Use your DAO class to get data from db, populate the data to a List and use this List in richfaces datatable or anything similar. Are you using hibernate / JPA ? Well, you don't really have to use hibernate or JPA but it makes your life easier.

is JPA different than Hibernate ?
