but as I try to skip stopserver-erase all I keep the old problem complaint every
time.

JBoss IDE or Exadel studio or even plain Eclipse WTP or Netbeans allows you to debug code running in the JBoss server from inside your IDE.
I use this every day, as do most other people here!
