Can I put something else then strings into DataList

I am trying to implement an iGoogle page where users can rearrage the different panels. I am thinking of using RichFaces and sortable functionality of jQuery UI.

How can I use the <rich:datalist> to output a list of <rich:panel>? Can this be done?
