Recommended System Requirements for Seam/JBoss AS

We will go into production soon with a Seam application running on JBoss AS 4.2. I would like to start with a single server. How much working memory would you recommend?

Paragraph 27.1 in the Seam book by Yuan/Heute says that a too large heap size can even slow down the JVM (GC sweeping takes longer). Running multiple AS instances on the same server box are recommended in that case.

Could someone tell me how large the heap should be for a single JBoss AS 4.2 instance? 2, 4 or 8 GB? More? Less?

Any additional hint regarding production hardware for Seam/JBoss AS would be very welcome.

No experience here? The application will be for a brand new internet web site and we don't expect a lot of traffic at the beginning. Currently I would tend to a 2 processor system with 8GB RAM and a single AS instance that gets 6GB. Do you think that makes sense?

How does your single production server running Seam/JBoss AS look like? Thanks.

It depends on your application ... but our experience is a limit of ~8GB total memory (including PermGen space etc.) for every single JBoss AS instance. On our 16GB production system, we are using two AS instances.
