Extending scrollableDataTable

Hi,
I am very new to both JSF and richfaces. I need to extend scrollableDataTable component in order to extend his functionality.
Could somebody give me some advice to help me starting to achieve this task? ..or point me to the proper documentation or tutorial.

Try the book 'JavaServer Faces - The Complete Reference' chapter 10, which is pretty easy to understand.
Sun also has a tutorial: http://java.sun.com/javaee/5/docs/tutorial/doc/bnavg.html (haven't read it)

Do you know if it covers JSF 1.2?
