Seam 2.0 GA with plain Tomcat 5.5
I found from other thread to disable Seam transaction (in components.xml). But why still we need persistence.xml file and all other persistence releated libs like Hibernate*.jar, persistence-api.jar etc.,
If you try the itext example (which uses no DB), deploy on plain Tomcat 5.5/6 then you can see the problem live.
I understand that Seam comes with full application stack, but for some rapid prototype to show Seam features (+JSF), we don't need to have DB tier.
If possible, please consider a feature request to pack plain Seam example with RichFaces without any dependency to DB/EIS tier in next release. -

gsawant Jan 20, 2008 9:11 PM (in response to techieexchange)Hi
I had the same problem while using seam 1.2.1 GA with Tomcat 5.5 and did not want to use persistence in the app.
Now I downloaded Seam 2.0.0 and ran it on Tomcat 6. The app works if I don't include persistence.xml file but I am still not able to remove the persistence related libraries in order to make the deployment on tomcat small and fast.
Basically I don't know which libraries to not include which persistence related from seam_home/lib dir. -

Do you have any sort of metric for how much faster removing persistence related libraries from tomcat will make your application *faster*? (I really doubt it will). -

gsawant Jan 21, 2008 11:51 AM (in response to techieexchange)Hi Pete
Speed is not the only issue we have (also I don't have any specific metric) but it will reduce the size of war file. Why carry around libraries that are not needed?
Thanks

8. Re: Seam without DB/persistence tier:Dependency libs
mail.micke Feb 12, 2008 6:08 AM (in response to techieexchange)I would also like it if there wasn't an explicit dependency on the persistence libs.
My reason is that we are currently adding JSF/Seam to a big old web app, this app uses other means of persistence.
Hopefully there are no dependencies on the old Hibernate jars in the jboss installation (4.0.3.SP1), but there might have been.
Cheers
