Using JBRules as a query language layer over a dataset residing in JBCache is just the start.

I think there is a lot more that can be gained here, namely using JBRules as a notification engine via the ESB. Especially when you start looking at the ways rules can be defined (and particularly with the * features in your article) there are some interesting possibililties that come up. Then again, this is the fundamental purpose of a rules engine. :-)
