Is jboss transactions part of application server? Some help

Excuse my ignorance, but I am new here.
I want to be able to use a JMS message service, that is transactionally linked with with a JDBC database (anyone of a number of different XA supporting vendors) using (presumably) JTA transactions.
Can someone tell me what I need to use to achieve this out of jboss' set of tools?
Do I need the application server, or the transaction service? Or both?

Hi,
There a few things that you will need to support this.

1) An JDBC driver that is XA capable (ie DB2, Oracle etc)
2) A *-ds.xml file that describes your XA datasource to the JBoss/JCA deployment layer.
3) An XA compliant JMS provider (ie JBossMQ, Sonice etc)
4) The appropriate MDB deployment describing your MDB's configured with the appropriate transactional attributes (ie REQUIRED) for your message consumption.
