EJB-Jar ignored at EAR-deployment

Hello,

I have an ear containing several ejb-jars and wars besides some utility libraries in the ears lib directory.

One of the ejb-jars is silently ignored by jboss when the ear gets deployed.

No stacktrace, no error-message not even a log entry which mentions its name.

When I remove it from the ear, jboss complains that theres an ejb-jar in the application.xml which is not there => correct.

When I remove the Class-Path line from the ejb-jar MANIFEST.MF then it gets deployed, but shows a ClassNotFoundException => correct.

But as soon as the Class-Path line in the ejb-jar MANIFEST.MF is there, it gets silently ignored.

My thinking is, that there is one (or several) libraries, that are missing from the Class-Path.

But I can not see which are missing, because I do not get any ClassNotFoundException or anything else that helps me to debug this issue.

How can I configure jboss in a way that tells me whats wrong with my ejb-jar?

Is it EJB2.x or EJB3 in that jar? Does it have ejb-jar.xml? If not, then do it have any beans marked with annotations? What's the output of

jar -tf your-ejbjar.jar

there are annotated ejb3-beans in it.

It has an empty ejb-jar.xml in it.

Empty? Any specific reason why you have that? Does it have an xsd declaration? If yes, then is the xsd declaration pointing to ejb-jar_3_0.xsd? If not, then it will not be considered a EJB3 jar and will be skipped from annotation scanning.

sorry, I've looked into it again. It has the following content:

Based on the contents in that file, i don't see a reason why the deployment will be skipped. What happens if you remove that ejb-jar.xml altogether?

Any chance of upgrading to the latest stable JBoss AS 5.1.0 which has better support for EJB3.

Hello Jaikiran,

I'm sorry but an upgrade is no option (because of the production system).

In the meantime I've experimented a bit with inserting a blank <enterprise-beans /> - Tag into ejb-jar.xml.

I've inserted by accident to opening tags without a closing tag and jboss complained about it.

So I knew that the file was scanned at deployment time.

I then removed it and magically the ejb-jar gets deployed since that time.

I don't know why.
