limit status to commandbutton

Let's say I have a form with an ajax commandButton and a status component.

I want the status component to only be used for the commandButton.

The only way I have figured out to do this is by setting the "status" attribute on the input components to a non-existant status, but I don't like this.

Is there a better way to accomplish this?

Try setting forceId="true" for the status.

Thank you that works. Is this a special attribute meaning of the status component or just the effect of changing the client id somehow?
