1. Re: NoClassDefFoundError when adding JBoss 5.1.0.GA
jayshaughnessy Nov 3, 2009 12:20 PM (in response to zematrix)Hi,
I'm not sure if your problem is directly related or tangential. Although Jopr 2.3.1 includes support for AS 5.x via the new jboss-as-5 plugin it supports only EAP 5.0 and future versions of AS (5.2 and later). AS 5.0 and 5.1 are not supported because they lack the required hooks in the profile service. As such it is also doubtful they will be supported in the future. -

babazs Nov 4, 2009 8:58 AM (in response to zematrix)HY!
I am using the latest jopr but it is not discovered my JBoss 5.1 server.
Do you use a plugin for JBoss5.1? Where can I download it?
thank you! -
3. Re: NoClassDefFoundError when adding JBoss 5.1.0.GA
ips Nov 4, 2009 9:04 AM (in response to zematrix)Jopr 2.3 and later includes a jboss-as-5 plugin, but that plugin only supports JBoss EAP 5.0 and later. It should also support JBoss AS 5.2 and later, but I haven't tried that out yet.

4. Re: NoClassDefFoundError when adding JBoss 5.1.0.GA
zematrix Dec 14, 2009 1:50 PM (in response to ips)Hi,
I'm now using an instance of JBoss EAP 5.0 with jopr-2.3.1, but I'm still getting the same exception. In fact, both jopr and JBoss EAP are both installed on the same pc, and so I'm using the embedded jopr agent.
In addition, there seems to be no step by step instruction on how add jboss as a managed resource. If there is, could you please point me to some documetation on adding JBoss AS (or EAP) as a managed platform in jopr, I'll be very glad.
Thanks

5. Re: NoClassDefFoundError when adding JBoss 5.1.0.GA
timlambertmf Jan 5, 2010 10:28 PM (in response to ips)Why does the Jopr jboss-as-5 plugin support the JBoss EAP 5.0 packaging of JBoss AS 5.1, but not the open-source JBoss AS 5.1.0GA?
Per the JBoss EAP 5.0 component listing (http://www.jboss.com/products/platforms/application/components) I thought they were the same.

6. Re: NoClassDefFoundError when adding JBoss 5.1.0.GA
lkrejci Jan 6, 2010 3:12 AM (in response to timlambertmf)The simple reason is that they aren't the same EAP 5.0 contains important fixes to the remoting and remote security of the Profile Service. These were fixed only after 5.1.0.GA was released and therefore will only be included in the subsequent releases of the open-source AS. -
7. Re: NoClassDefFoundError when adding JBoss 5.1.0.GA
zematrix Jan 11, 2010 10:22 AM (in response to lkrejci)But now what is frustrating me is why I'm having the same issue with a JBoss EAP 5.0 instance, with the same error as I was getting on the JBoss 5.1.0.GA?
Guys, I'm in dire need of some help here, or we might be forced to look for a different management tool (which would be a shame considering the amount of noise I'd made about JOPR to my folks here).

8. Re: NoClassDefFoundError when adding JBoss 5.1.0.GA
timlambertmf Jan 11, 2010 10:29 AM (in response to lkrejci)Are the fixes available in the open source tree ... as long as one is brave enough to figure out what to get, patch, and build locally?
I patched remoting a while back when I first deployed JBoss AS 5.1.0.
Maybe it's just a patch to the profiling service?
And I suppose the plugin itself because, if my quick read of the code was correct, it seems to be coded to avoid AS 5.1.

9. Re: NoClassDefFoundError when adding JBoss 5.1.0.GA
ips Jan 11, 2010 10:53 AM (in response to timlambertmf)Anything is possible, but we haven't looked into what it would take to patch AS 5.1.0. I would recommend upgrading to AS 6.0.0.M1 or buying a subscription for EAP. Correct, you'd have to patch the profile service, and possibly some of its dependent jars, as well as remove the check in the Jopr jboss-as-5 plugin's discovery code. -
10. Re: NoClassDefFoundError when adding JBoss 5.1.0.GA
ips Jan 11, 2010 10:55 AM (in response to zematrix)EAP5 should work. Please post the stack trace you get when trying to add EAP5. Is there anything non-standard about your EAP5 installation (e.g. did you delete or modify the client/ subdirectory? -

ccrouch Jan 11, 2010 1:52 PM (in response to zematrix)"In fact, both jopr and JBoss EAP are both installed on the same pc, and so I'm using the embedded jopr agent."
We don't normally recommend the embedded agent for production use, so you should probably use the standalone agent and see if the problem still occurs.
Thanks
