Thanks for the reply, but I've found those links and tutorials already. As I say in my original post I managed to get the bean pool size limit to work using AOP. However, I was also under the impression that a jboss.xml file would also work, and be much simpler. I know the server is reading my jboss.xml file because if it contains mistakes the bean won't deploy. So why can't I configure the container cache using jboss.xml?

It's not supported for EJB3. It was there for EJB2.x beans.

1) jboss.xml is not supported for ejb3 (see http://www.techienuggets.com/Detail?tx=12927 that suggests otherwise)?
2) configuring specifically the container cache through jboss.xml is not supported for ejb3?

jboss.xml is supported for ejb3 (and are also being used in the tutorials that i earlier pointed to)
