oncomplete is not executed

i got an menuitem on my page. i set oncomplete to

Richfaces.showModalPanel('edittabledatadlg');

but the modal panel does not appear.

if i use onclick. everything is ok...but i need on complete....

i think something in the jsf lifecycle is going wrong.

any hints how to find out what the problem is?

Add

<a4j:log popup="false" />

. It displays full information about request processing.
