Well, just because you're getting no errors doesn't mean it is "working".
Default behaviour for AIO with some file systems is to silently default to synchronous IO. This will produce no errors but performance will probably be poor.

In those cases it will probably be better off using NIO.
It's confusing.. that libaio page doesn't have anything to do with the libaio on the kernel.
It is working on XFS for sure.
Performance isn't a huge issue for us so I switched the hornetq configuration to use NIO. The problem went away.

and procedures.. from now on whenever we have a question about the journal, the first question we will make is what file system you're using.
