1. Re: Moving download file locations to clean up downloads??
ilya_shaikovsky Mar 24, 2010 11:27 AM (in response to jbalunas)Would not need us to update the links on project site
Do you meant that we actually need to update the links but only version in file name and nothing more now?
Actually I agree that it would be good to organize the downloads to subdirectories for making uploads cleaner. And the links itself will be more informative.
Could cause external links directly to the download files to break
could this be handled with some redirects?
Also note that I am going to add an index.html file much like http://downloads.jboss.org/jbosside/ did that will link to the project site downloads.
that sounds good and I think will makes it more organized and intuitive for browsing.

The file names themselves would not change, just the path to them. So for example:
Instead of this:
http://download.jboss.com/jboss-richfaces/richfaces-ui-3.3.2.GA-bin.zip
We would need to change to this:
http://download.jboss.com/richfaces/3.3.X/3.3.2.GA/richfaces-ui-3.3.2.GA-bin.zip
BTW - why is this /jboss-richfaces? /richfaces works fine - if/when we change for the new directory structure we should change those too.

Yes, but it would be a lot of work.
Perhaps a better solution ( if possible ) is any file request in "/richfaces" to automatically forwarded to /richfaces/index.html. Any requests for files in sub-directories would work fine. Not sure if there is control at that level - or how much time it would take for IT to do.

4. Re: Moving download file locations to clean up downloads??
ilya_shaikovsky Mar 24, 2010 11:58 AM (in response to jbalunas)So if we need to change at least directory jboss-richfaces to richfaces - we need links updates anyway.. So it would not much harder to add subdirectories.

Yes.. that's something like I meant. I do not wanted redirects to concrete files but to that index you wrote in first post. There could be some note about browsing among new dirs.

jbalunas Mar 24, 2010 12:11 PM (in response to ilya_shaikovsky)Correct - I think that is the way to go...

jbalunas Mar 24, 2010 12:14 PM (in response to ilya_shaikovsky)Good it sounds like we are in agreement.
I'll setup that file, write up the wiki, and start the updates, when I can.
The first thing I will update is the directories for the 3.3.3.Final release. the other updates have more time.
Thanks for your input
