Looks like you have an old database schema that you did not upgrade. The backfilled column is not a new column - its been around since September 2009 ( https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=RHQ-2335 ).
I suspect you installed a new server but did not run thru the installer webapp - the installer upgrades (or overwrites if you so choose) any previous database schema you had.
Is it possible you changed the server to point to an older database with an older schema?
In any event, clearly what's happening is a version mismatch - you have a new server but old database schema. You can find out the schema version by looking in RHQ_SYSTEM_CONFIG - there is a DB_SCHEMA_VERSION row.

5. Re: registration failure
mazz Mar 24, 2010 3:59 PM (in response to slackwaresupport)I don't know what happened to the database schema. Unsure what Jopr versions can be auto-upgraded from the latest RHQ release.
Best bet (if you don't care about existing data/inventory) is unzip a fresh copy of the distro, run it, go to the installer and tell it to "overwrite existing data". If that doesn't work, manually drop your schema and create an empty one.
FWIW, the latest RHQ developer release is to be considered a beta release and probably is unable to upgrade existing environments. See:
http://rhq-project.org/display/JOPR2/Release+Notes
where we have a big red warning to this effect.
