Jboss 5.1 shutdown.sh wont stop the server

I am using putty and am able to start the server using the run.sh but I cannot stop the server using the shutdown.sh command(shutdown.sh -S).

I have to grep the connection ps -ef | grep jboss and run the kill -9 command to stop it.

Can anyone tell me whats going on. The error I recieve when running the shutdown.sh -S.....it states java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: javax,management.MalformedObjectnameException

Do you provide any binding address when starting the server? if yes may be you can try shutdown.sh --server=address.
