a4j commandlink changing link while processing

Hello,

Im using an image as an link where the use clicks to do an ajax call through a4j:commandLink...do i have a possibility to disable this image (change the image to a non-link image etc.) while the ajax request is still being processed? At the moment im getting the following error, when the user clicks several times in a short time period:

Try using java script to control the button click or using div hide the commandlink buttom and show another button.

I dont want to disable it but much more show a loading icon instead of the "Process"-Icon. That is my actual problem.
