Prevent automatic resizing of <rich:column> upon resizing window

I'm looking to ensure that a <rich:column> in a <rich:extendedDataTable> has a fixed width using the width="..." attribute. Is there a way to prevent the automatic resizing of a table column upon a window resize event?
