rich:subTable with rich:extendedDataTable

Does the <rich:subTable> work with the <rich:extendedDataTable>?

I get no faclet (or other) errors when I combine them, but the rendered results are not at all as expected.... Simply changing the containing <rich:extendedDataTable> to a <rich:dataTable> produces the desired results.

However, I would like to use the <rich:extendedDataTable> for its multiple selection and column position controls......

Is this a known issue? By design? Or a limitation that is to be worked some day??
