PDF & Excel export from rich:datatable

I need to export the contents of rich:datatable into PDF as well as Excel. Could anyone let me know the right approach for the same. Is there something equivalent to displaytag used in struts?

use apache poi for example and export data from your actions.

Hi,

if you don't want to depend on Seam, a solution is to create a phase listener, and from there get hold of the component tree.

Then transverse the tree looking for the dataTable you care about, and iterate to the data model, fetching the generated values from the EL expressions and placing them into the data structures that you will use for the export.
