a4j:poll dismisses rich:modalPanel

I have a page where a4:poll runs and updates a section. If I display a rich:modalPanel at some point, the next poll cycle dismisses it before the user can read it. Do I need to manually disable a4j:poll whenever a rich:modalPanel is being displayed?

In some cases it's gonna be necessary(disabling polling) and in some cases not necessary. It depends on your requirements. Please post a sample of your code.

Sorry, it looks like this was my error. I was enabling the rich:modalPanel from an event using h:commandButton which also causes a full page refresh.
