autocomplete does not have a title attribute

I'm using RichFaces 4 and autocomplete. The autocomplete doesn't seem to have a title attribute and it would be nice to be able to give the user a description of what the content of the autocomplete is. Is there a reason why autocomplete doesn't have the title attribute or is there another way to do this?

Could try rich:tooltip (I understand that it's not a good solution and title really needed there)
