you need a special PatternLayout-Class, it org.apache.log4j.EnhancedPatternLayout. With this one you can use GMT Timestamps. To get this working, you need to download the log4j-extras from http://logging.apache.org/log4j/companions/extras/download.html. Further Doc's at http://logging.apache.org/log4j/companions/extras/apidocs/org/apache/log4j/EnhancedPatternLayout.html

<param name="TimeZone" value="GMT" />
</layout>
<appender>
