a4j:status only works with default id

We have a page that is using the tabPanel and have set up separate pages for each tab. We need to use the a4j:status on some of the tabs when they are clicked, to indicate that the tab is loading. Our problem happens when we try to use a status on more than one tab. I have read that the way to get around this is to use a4j:region. I have tried this, but when I add this to the tab's page, the status does not work.

What I have found is that when I use no region or id on the status, the status id is defaulted to _ViewRoot:status. When it is this, it works. When I use a region, the status id is set to the region name:status and then it does not work. I have also tried using the id and forceId on the status and that gives the status a unique id, but then it doesn't work.

I can not figure out what is wrong. Any ideas?

I tried that and it did not work. Any time the id that is generated in the source is anything other than _viewRoot:status, the status does not execute. Everything says it should, but it doesn't for us.

the status in region will works only if the component which performing ajax request placed in the same region.

If I leave the status to use the default name, it works without the script. If I give the status an id, I have to use forceId="true" to get it to use the id and then the status does not work with or without the script. The problem seems to be giving the status an id other than the default. We are using Richfaces 3.3.3. This is totally perplexing. Any further ideas?

Well, try this:

a) set status name and forceId
b) reference status from tab/tabPanel component using 'status' attribute.

It doesn't appear that the tabPanel has a status attribute.

I tried it and it does not execute. As soon as the id is not the default, it does not work. Could there be any Richfaces settings that could affect this? Also, our tabPanel has switchType set to "client".

Elaine,

Status only applies to ajax switching of tabs, for client mode you should implement this functionality manually.

Then why does it work with the default id? If I were to implement it manually, how would I do that?
