How to deploy properties for application outside the EAR file?

Hello!

My application is packaged as standard EAR-file. I want to be able to deploy some initial settings for the application outside the EAR file, so that the EAR must not be changed when these properties are changed.

Is there a way to deploy a properties or XML-File or anything similiar together with the EAR file in the deploy directory which can then be accessed from within the application?

I've found one possible way:

The file can be placed in jboss\server\default\conf\ and then loaded by using

URL configFileURL = Thread.currentThread().getContextClassLoader().getResource(<CONFIG_FILENAME>);

from within the application.

The server/xxx/conf directory is in the classpath so using ClassLoader.getRource() is a good way to access configuration files in that directory.

Alternately, you can get the server/xxx/conf location via the jboss.server.conf.url system property, and then us a File object to access the file.
