about skin parameters

Hi,

I am new to richfaces.In the richfaces pdf they spicified skin parameters and css properties.What is the difference between them and how and where i can use them.

for eg:
Skin parameters CSS properties
tableFooterBackgroundColor background-color


for richExtendedDatatable they specified the following properties.how i can use and apply.

can any one explain me thid in some detail
