Last Paged file not being de-paged.

I'm posting this message in hope that it's me doing something stupid, and not HornetQ.

Quick overview:

I've two Clustered instances of JBoss 5.1, a message producer that creates 100000 messages within an XA Transaction (using java:/JmsXA).  Once all the messages have been enqueued, the transaction completes and the messages are distributed across the nodes.  Each cluster node has a client in the form of an MDB that picks the messages off the queue.  This process happily trundles along, until the last paged file needs to be de-paged.  The whole process stops and no exceptions are thrown.

I've done an lsof on the remaining paged file and it reports that java is the culprit that has a hold on the file. 

I could, at this point, post all the configuration of the queues and connection factories, but I thought I would ask the question first, in hope that I'm missing something obvious.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.  My first guess, is that maybe JTA has a lock on the file and therefore the process that de-pages the file is refused?

Is the file empty?

HornetQ 2.2 should leave at least one empty file as it will need to keep the counters from where it left case it starts to page again.

To answer your question. No. The last file is smaller that the previous ones; I'm guessing it doesn't contain enough messages to fill the required page size.  All the other have been de-paged.  I've specified that page files are 10485760 (10 x 1024 x 1024) bytes in size, and the remaining file is about two thirds of this.

I have done a few improvements on paging on Branch_2_2_EAP and trunk. Maybe it would be worth trying it.

I'm thinking we should have a release soon from the Branch_2_2 (stable)

If you think there is nothing else that may be causing this anomaly, I'll give it a try.

A non ACKed message would cause this issue.

Or a pending Prepared Transaction with pending ACKs also.

Unfortunately, Clebert, due to security constraints at work I can't build from SVN.  I'm restricted to downloading JAR files only. 

I'll look into ACKs, but I thought if I use Container managed transactions in the MDB then JBoss, or the underlying Application Server, would automatically Acknowledge messages.

You could have a pending prepared message.

Could you possibly expand on that statement, please?  Or do you mean: I've created a message from a session and just not called producer.send(message)?

I meant prepared transaction.  Sort of a typo.  You could hVe a prepared tx with acks.

It would be a good idea go run printpages from trunk which is a undocumented tool to print what messages are on page files and it's acks.
