1. Re: rich:datascroller with postback?
ilya_shaikovsky Jul 6, 2009 4:23 AM (in response to tomba)no it's not possible with rich:datascroller. B.t.w. seems you need to investigate your concrete case more. Seems the demosite samples with scroller has no such performance issues?

2. Re: rich:datascroller with postback?
tomba Jul 6, 2009 4:31 AM (in response to tomba)Yes well it's still that problem from the other thread, with a4j:repeat.
It pages in 2s on Chrome, 4s on IE7 and 6s or never on Firefox 3.5 (which is stunning considering that javascript in Firefox 3+ is generally a lot faster than on IE7. -
3. Re: rich:datascroller with postback?
ilya_shaikovsky Jul 6, 2009 4:51 AM (in response to tomba)again.. just general description not helps to see where the problem is.
demosite sample at http://livedemo.exadel.com/richfaces-demo/richfaces/dataTable.jsf?tab=modifiableDataModel works in FF for about a 1 sec and in IE about 2 sec. Simple example at datascroller page works even faster. So, need more careful results about where the time consumption happens in your case. -
4. Re: rich:datascroller with postback?
tomba Jul 6, 2009 5:22 AM (in response to tomba)Allright well, thanks to Firebug profiler I could get a time consumption map, although only for RF3.2.2, as in 3.3.1 it only lists the onclick event in the profile results.
Anyway, here's a screenshot of the profile results. stripTags() here obviously takes all the time, not sure what happens there...

Need anything else? -
5. Re: rich:datascroller with postback?
tomba Jul 6, 2009 6:42 AM (in response to tomba)Browsing a little through the code the stripTags() is just a regex expression applied to the response (if I'm correct).
Hence, I suspect the problem is just that the ajax response is 20KB and therefore takes a bit too much time? I'll try to see if I can optimise the markup a little, but I'm afraid that won't help much.
Don't you also think this is strange behaviour for Firefox anyway? -
6. Re: rich:datascroller with postback?
nbelaevski Jul 6, 2009 8:57 AM (in response to tomba)Hi,
That's really time consuming. Can you please post page/bean code? -
7. Re: rich:datascroller with postback?
tomba Jul 6, 2009 9:35 AM (in response to tomba)Of course, see the links below:

Thank you for the followup!
Just let me know if you need anything else. I would really like to find out what is causing this and how to fix/workaround it. -
8. Re: rich:datascroller with postback?
adubovsky Jul 7, 2009 8:32 AM (in response to tomba)Hello,
I have tried to reproduce your problem on our local environment without success. All seems good on our side. The time is about 1 sec in FF 3.5 and 90 % of the time is clearChildNodes() execution.
Can you please to prepare a simple example project with described problem and share it? -
9. Re: rich:datascroller with postback?
tomba Jul 7, 2009 10:22 AM (in response to tomba)Ok thanks I'll see to create an as small as possible tryout project.
Btw did you profile that javascript on RF 3.3.1 ?
And if so, how? -
10. Re: rich:datascroller with postback?
adubovsky Jul 7, 2009 10:59 AM (in response to tomba)Yes, it works for 3.3.1.GA also on our side after following steps:
1. Open tested page
2. Open firebug. Click Profile button.
3. Click RunReport button on your page (without the last 2 steps profile generates only onclick events, as you have written yearlier :))
4. After page reload click Profile again. After report will be generated clear log and perform necessary steps:
5. Click Profile -> open any page using datascroller -> click Profile again -
11. Re: rich:datascroller with postback?
tomba Jul 7, 2009 1:08 PM (in response to tomba)I sent a PM with a link to the project.
I put in a couple of hours to make it work standalone so I hope it pays off.
Thank you -
12. Re: rich:datascroller with postback?
tomba Jul 7, 2009 1:11 PM (in response to tomba)Oh looks like I cannot PM you from here.
Can I get an email address because I'd rather not put a link up here.
Thank you,
Steven -
