[rich:column] Easy way for custom filter input

Hi!

Is there an easy way to use a custom input control for filtering a datatable? I already have my own model and would like to put comboboxes right next to the input-fields so the user can choose an operator.

I read about a filter-facet, but my columns don't have one (either that or the combobox is not being displayed) :(

I also want to alter the style of the filter. How is that possible?

Thanks for that link, but I want to keep the existing "backing-functionality" if you specify the filterBy-attribute.

I'm going to write the markup like suggested in that link, but yet am trying to make my h:inputText be recognized by the modify method (Modifiable interface).

Who exactly calls the modify-Method of the datamodel? I want to find out how to call the existing filtering-functionality manually.
