Tabitems - switchtype client and ajax combined

In my application a tabpanel is created dynamicaly from database content. The tabitems contains many lines of html code. The context of the item is loaded when a tabitem is clicked.

When the tabpanel is created all the tabitem get swichtype=ajax. After a tabitem is visited I set the switchtype of the tabitem to 'client'.

The client-side tabChanges go very fast but when more tabitems set to client-side switchtype the tabpanel became slower. The cause is that the hole tabpanel is rerendered after a event with the client-side tabitems included. The amount of data send over after a tabChange becomes bigger and bigger.

Is there a way to tell the tabpanel to only rerender the current tabitem?

I mean that only the current tabitem can be rendered and not the whole tabPanel.

I was trying to implement the same exact thing as described at the top of this thread(combine client and ajax switch types within one tabPanel). And I have the same problem - tab with switchType=client gets encoded, when I click tab with switchType=ajax.

Is it possible to prevent tabs with switchType="client" from being encoded, in other words to make them hold the state on the client, when tab with switchType ajax is clicked?

Any help is highly appreciated.
