The HSQLDB is used in file mode. This is a trial to use a better performing file based persistence for infinispan. The application we are building cannot afford the cost of Berkley DB and the performance overhead of JDBM. During evaluation of HSQLDB, I came across the link posted above.
BTW, is there a better LGPL alternative for JDBM / File based cache store?

Rather than using Hypersonic, you might wanna try H2 which is more up to date: http://www.h2database.com/html/main.html
