1. Re: mod_cluster on JBoss 5.1.0 and cluster nodes on JBoss 4.2.3
hareeshram Oct 12, 2011 3:31 PM (in response to harshak)Harsha - Some more info for clarity.
What is your application layered structure? Do you have web server? please note that mod_cluster is a httpd based loadbalancer. The whole configuration has two parts one one httpd side and the other (java config) one targeted to backend servers ( could be AS/JBossWeb/Tomcat).

harshak Oct 13, 2011 1:12 AM (in response to hareeshram)Hi Hareesh,
Thanks for the reply.
We have a GWT - Spring based application deployed on JBoss 4.2.3 AS.
I have also set up HTTPD.
The confusion I had was wrt the java config of the loadbalancer.
So can I set up the java config of the load balancer on JBoss 5.1.0 AS and access the application deployed on JBoss 4.2.3.

jfclere Oct 13, 2011 2:49 AM (in response to harshak)So you have 2 AS one running 5.10 and the other one 4.2.3 and the same httpd as front-end?

harshak Oct 13, 2011 3:06 AM (in response to jfclere)Yes.
I have 2 AS.
My application deployed on 4.2.3 (this is running on a linux server).
Have setup HTTPD on my local windows system.
Am configuring the java config part of load balancer on 5.1.0 on my local windows system.

jfclere Oct 13, 2011 3:55 AM (in response to harshak)you need sticky sessions and 2 different loadBalancingGroup (See http://docs.jboss.org/mod_cluster/1.1.0/html/java.properties.html).

6. Re: mod_cluster on JBoss 5.1.0 and cluster nodes on JBoss 4.2.3
harshak Oct 13, 2011 10:24 AM (in response to jfclere)Hi Guys,
Thanks for trying to answer my questions.
I had totally misunderstood the documentation because of which I was trying to set up java config on one server and deploying the application on another.
As of now I have installed the httpd on my windows local and made java config configuratioin on my cluster nodes running on JBoss 4.2.3.
One doubt that I had was, in the documentation of mod_cluster the minimum requirement is mentioned as JBoss 5.0 +.
So would me trying to set up configuration on JBoss 4.2.3 work.
And moreover in the Chapter 6 (server side configuration), the explanation is more specific to JBoss 5.0 +.
So would me trying to run mod_cluster on JBoss 4.2.3 work?

jfclere Oct 14, 2011 2:22 AM (in response to harshak)See http://docs.jboss.org/mod_cluster/1.1.0/html/Quick_Start_Guide.html#d0e389 you have to add the listener by hangs in the server.xml
