How to overwrite the existing portal object

Hi All,

I have a web application successfully deployed in GateIn 3.1.

I did it by creating Portal, Page and Portlets using the GateIn UI.

Now , I could make it work by configuring xml files(portal.xml, navigation.xml, pages.xml).Also, i have switched the database to Oracle.

Everything is successful except one thing.After adding a new portlet in these xml files, it is not getting reflected after deployment.I have to drop the user(the user connected to database) and recreate it everytime i make any changes in the xml files.Is there any way in Gatein to overwrite the existing portal object so that i don't want to drop and recreate the user.

Before upgarding to GateIn, I have been using jboss-portal 2.7.1 and there was a tag in *-object.xml and portlet-instances.xml  to support this feature.

<if-exists>overwrite</if-exists>.Is there anything like this in GateIn?

There is a feature *Data Import* which seems to be suitable with your need BUT unfortunately it was done in latest development verion of GateIn trunk only https://issues.jboss.org/browse/GTNPORTAL-2104

      thnx for ur reply......we r using GateIn-3.1.0-GA... so upgrading to GateIn-3.2 can rectify our issue.... is it so ??????

Correct, GateIn 3.2 will have the concept of an 'importMode' to manage importing data from configuration.  Supported values are 'conserve', 'insert', 'merge', and 'overwrite', where 'merge' is configured as the default 'importMode'.  Conserve will only import data when data for that site does not exist. Insert will import data only when it does not exist. Merge will import new data and override existing data.  Overwrite will delete existing data and import the new.

Our sample extension can give you an idea what this looks like here: https://anonsvn.jboss.org/repos/gatein/portal/trunk/examples/extension/war/src/main/webapp/WEB-INF/conf/sample-ext/portal/portal-configuration.xml.  You will see the 'importMode' parameter with a value of merge.
