What are the advantages of HornetQ data replication vs Shared store?

We are using HornetQ 2.2.5 final version for our project. We are currently trying to setup fail over server for the HornetQ. I came to know that HornetQ 2.2.5 Final doesn't support data replication and it is still under development.

I see that if we use data replication, then we don't have to configure  a SAN shared storage. But, I am just curious to know whether data replication has any major advantages over Shared Storage?

And also, when can we expect data replication functionality in HornetQ 2.2.5 Final version?

We are current working on re-implementing replication for 2.3.0. 2.2.5 don't have replication.
