2. Re: RF 4.1.0.Final dropped IE 7 Support
mcmurdosound Dec 23, 2011 3:09 AM (in response to gonzalad)I dont't understand - why should this be a major bug? Since IE 7 is an old browser - a quite annoying one, too. I don't see, in your posted links, anything about dropping support for IE 7. They are concentrating on the newer ones like IE8, Chrome or Firefox.
This should be at most a feature request. ;-)

gonzalad Dec 23, 2011 6:16 AM (in response to mcmurdosound)Hi Christian,
All I see is : IE 7 was supported in RF 4.0 and not anymore in RF 4.1.
This cannot be a feature request since it was *already* supported in RF 4.0.
I didn't found any info about this in RF 4.1 release anouncement (http://blog.bleathem.ca/2011/12/state-of-richfaces.html).
All I'm asking with this JIRA is to clarify if IE 7 is dropped now and forever or if this is just temporary - and in this case when it will come back.
And if IE 7 is droppped I'll wait a bit before using RF 4.1 in production for my internet applications.
I don't see, in your posted links, anything about dropping support for IE 7.
2nd link in RF 4.1 documentation chapter client requirements :
Microsoft Windows environments
- Internet Explorer 8.0 and higher

mcmurdosound Dec 23, 2011 6:40 AM (in response to gonzalad)I'm sorry. I think you're right regarding the official list of supported browsers / requirements:
(I took this from the 4.0 documentation)
""""
Linux environments
Mac OS environments
Microsoft Windows environments
- Firefox 3.0 and higher
- Google Chrome 1.0 and higher
- Internet Explorer 7.0 and higher
- Opera 9.5 and higher
- Safari 4.0 and higher

Did you experiance any new incompatibilities after migrating from 4.0 to 4.1?
For my own work, even when using jQuery I had to do many workarounds. Especially then doing eventhandling. In the simplest case properties and functions had different names in IE than in any other browser. But this is Microsofts fault, making webdevelopment unnecessary difficult by ignoring any standard. How often did I have to remind me: Oh, where is the IE. I have to fix that for that later....

In fact, I didn't event migrate from RF 3.x to RF 4.x (we've got 20+ web-apps based on Seam 2 / RF 3.x in my company and migration will be very difficult - so I prefer to know every limitation and impact before proceding).
IE 7 usage is 6.7%, I cannot advice my company to use RF 4.1 for internet apps *now* (we'll need to wait a bit more in this case).
P.S Personnaly, CSS with IE is the major pain for me. JS differences isn't too difficult (but I'm using JSF so it must surely shield some difficulties).

6. Re: RF 4.1.0.Final dropped IE 7 Support
bleathem Jan 3, 2012 1:46 PM (in response to gonzalad)We've removed IE 7 from the list of supported browsers, as it's no longer a focus for the project moving forward. If you experience any specific issues with IE 7, please file jira issues, and we can assess them on a case-by-case basis.
