Richfaces 4.1.0.Final a4j:push throw jetty java.lang.IllegalArgumentException in PushResource.java:85

Hello,

I simplified richfaces showcase to test a4j:push. All seems work ok then I deploy to Tomcat, but I using mvn jetty:run and load page I getting:

What can be wrong here? Maybe some dependences are missing? I attached sample maven project to test out...

P.S. I getting same exception when trying to integrate with Spring Web Flow, which is priority issue. Had someone tried such setup?

To run attached sample project run mvn jetty:run an then go to address http://localhost:8084/richfaces-showcase/welcome.jsf

you are using atmosphere 7.0.2, check this out,

it is for non-maven, but you can try it out.

Ibrahim, thanks for reply. No progress here with you dependencies either. Tried with atmosphere versions 0.8.1 / 0.8.2, same results. As I said, it works ok with Tomcat, but throws exception in jetty. Havent try with AS6 as in your enviroment.

Hello Vadim,

same here. I'm using Tomcat-7.0.23, RichFaces-4.1-FINAL, MyFaces-2.1.5 and Atmosphere-0.8.3. So all very new code...

I found out that the first request to PushResource.java is a POST that includes the parameter 'pushTopic' and then all is fine.

The next request is a GET with completely different parameters (http://localhost:8080/rfRes/org.richfaces.resource.PushResource.xhtml?__richfacesPushAsync=1&pushSessionId=b98effa0-ae19-4ad8-ab68-99f33d531941). This second request misses the 'pushTopic' and so results in the exception. When I change the PushResource.java a little to force a 'pushTopic' it passes but then the client side just keeps requesting continuously and still the push does not work. Does anybody have this functional?

Hi guys,

I have checked Vadim's sample and with Tomcat 7 and JBoss AS 7 it works perfectly,

but with Jetty 6.1 (used during mvn jetty:run) it doesn't work.

The problem is Jetty 6.1 is using Servlet API 2.5,

what brings two consequences:

• auto-registration of PushServlet not available
  • you need to register it manually
• asynchronous servlets not available
  • you need to switch to blocking IO

Following web.xml snippet needs to be added to Vadim's push-showcase.jar project in order to run it on jetty:

Note that some containers may emulate Servlets API 2.5 just because you provided web.xml version 2.5:

P.S.

Be shure you are using atmosphere-runtime version 0.8.0-RC1. Because if you use

atmosphere-runtime 0.7.2 you get (fixed in 0.8.0-RC1):

java.lang.IllegalStateException: This Broadcaster has been destroyed and cannot be used

and if atmosphere-runtime 0.8.0 (final) or higer you get:

java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: org.atmosphere.websocket.WebSocketSupport

Vadim, the tip about the atmosphere version has fixed it for me - I was using 0.8.2 and getting the WebSocket error.

I think I'll post up my full working config seeing as it's taken a while to get it working.

Yes, support for Atmosphere 0.8.3 is baking right now in 4.2 - regrettably there were some incompatible API changes between 0.8.0-RC1 and 0.8.3,

you should be ok if you are using richfaces-bom to manage dependencies in your Maven project

(be sure to consult it for dependency versions when you are not using it).
