jbalunas.jbalunas.jboss.org Mar 9, 2008 8:24 PM (in response to joerg.joerg.schneider.e-custody.de)That's great - thanks for the info. This has been a known problem with BEA for a long time. I wonder if this had anything to do with Seam users complaining to BEA.
I'll try it out and see if it fixes the jee5 example from the reference docs.

jbalunas.jbalunas.jboss.org Mar 10, 2008 6:44 PM (in response to joerg.joerg.schneider.e-custody.de)Was your access to this through their support? In other words do you know of a public location for the fix?
If it is not public we may need to wait to update the docs until there is a public release.

joerg.joerg.schneider.e-custody.de Mar 10, 2008 7:06 PM (in response to joerg.joerg.schneider.e-custody.de)Yes, I opened a case with BEA support and they provided this patch a week later. No idea if this CR is gonna be public or only for those that own a license. Still, if someone owns a license I think it's worth knowing that there is a patch available.

jbalunas.jbalunas.jboss.org Mar 10, 2008 7:15 PM (in response to joerg.joerg.schneider.e-custody.de)Absolutely - I think it is great that you let the community know it is out there.
I figured it was only through their support. When it is public we will take a look and update the docs if needed.

joerg.joerg.schneider.e-custody.de Mar 11, 2008 1:55 PM (in response to joerg.joerg.schneider.e-custody.de)After speaking to BEA they are fine with me sending the CR's to the Seam development team - the fix will be included in a subsequent 10MP2 release and in between it won't be available for the public - anyhow, as I said if you provide me an email address I can send you the CR's.

lauerc.xxx.test.de Mar 12, 2008 12:36 AM (in response to joerg.joerg.schneider.e-custody.de)Hi Jörg,
the CR327275 was developed during my support case more than a month ago - in fact i solved a little problem in their patch to really make it work (the source code of the affected class was included in their initial patch ;-)).
Unfortunately this fix just fixes the general varargs problem (varargs method is interpreted as transient). This makes simple components work. But the complex seam timer component still doesn't work, because the method scheduleAsynchronousEvent is not included in the internal stubs for mysterious reasons.
I've opened a case in hope they'll fix this (hopefully) last problem, but unfortunately the support engineer which solved the initial issue was not able to do it and handed it over to the development team.
This is my last information for this issue. So please tell me, does the patch really work for you. How is the size of your patch class and which files are included?
Best regards,
Christian -

joerg.joerg.schneider.e-custody.de Mar 12, 2008 6:53 AM (in response to joerg.joerg.schneider.e-custody.de)Hi Christian,
I've sent you the patches in a separate mail, but I assume they are the same as those BEA sent to you. If I'd be given a detailled error/bug description, I can then forward this to BEA and ask for resolution again. Anyhow, I only asked for the vararg issue to be fixed and if that is working now, I guess BEA did a good job. If there is a new issue, then this would require a new CR.
Cheers,

joerg.joerg.schneider.e-custody.de Mar 12, 2008 10:26 AM (in response to joerg.joerg.schneider.e-custody.de)Hi Christian,
after speaking to our development team, they said that the patch works fine and if using JRockit 1.5.0.11 (ships with Weblogic 10MP1) they did not observer any more errors. Anyhow, if using the SUN JDK 1.5.0.11 together with WL 10MP1 they also experienced another problem, most likely the one you mentioned above. So could you pls. test against the JRockit JDK 1.5.0.11 if you still experience the same error and le me(us) know ?
Thanks.

lauerc.xxx.test.de Mar 12, 2008 6:00 PM (in response to joerg.joerg.schneider.e-custody.de)Hi Jörg,
it really seems to work using JRockit.
I'm currently struggeling with problems related with Sun Solaris but I'm hoping to fix those issues soon.Otherwise it makes me feel uneasy to know that it doesn't work with the standard JVM. Using this solution I'm bound to BEA's VM and I'm not able to switch in case of JRockit dependent problems.

joerg.joerg.schneider.e-custody.de Mar 12, 2008 7:54 PM (in response to joerg.joerg.schneider.e-custody.de)Hi Christian,
I don't know if that is really a dependancy - if you plan to use Weblogic in a production environment, you'll only receive support from BEA if using JRockit JVM, since that is the one they recommend and test their product with. So if you plan to have support from BEA, you need to use JRockit JVM anyway, as far as I understood.

Jörg

lauerc.xxx.test.de Mar 13, 2008 10:35 AM (in response to joerg.joerg.schneider.e-custody.de)Hi Jörg,
this is simply not true!
with platform dependent installers BEA always ships a standard JDK and a JRockit VM. You can choose JRockit if you want, but as far as I know the SUN VM is used by default, the JRockit usage is only an option.
BEA supports the JRockit only for Linux, Windows and SUN Solaris (only Sparc 64), but the WebLogic server is supported for SUN Solaris Sparc, HPUX, AIX. We're running BEA WebLogic Servers since 2000. We never used the JRockit, and from my past experiences, I'll never use it in production.
Maybe you should have a look at the BEA documentation to find out what they support or not:
