Conversation propagation

What happens if you don't end or just forget to end a conversation? Does its state continue to hang around? For how long? Can this cause an application to blow up?

What happens if you leave a conversation (propagation="none" on a s:link)? Does the existing conversation continue to hang around? How does it end? Is it usable under any scenario? Which scenario is it?

Search this forum for conversation timeout and have a look at the component.xml settings for the timeout value.

I guess I asked because I didn't notice it in the reference doc and I am scared of browsing around the forum too much because of its slowness.
