Splitting components.xml

Is it possible to have several components.xml in deployment?

Example:

• components-base.xml


• components-dev.xml

Both files will be deployed on the server. Is this possible with importing or should the server this recognize automatically?

Thanks for the hint. But it is not exactly what I'm looking for. In a large project I'd like to split it up into several smaller projects (application components). Depending which app component you are developing on you need other parts (but not all) to test and deploy (for manual testing). Like saying a project it depends on the other project, I like to say in the components.xml it should include the .xml from the other project (project eg. vertical app component).
