Best Seam book?

Hi,

Which book about Seam framework would you recommend? So far I found three interesting positions:

Dan Allen Seam In Action
Michael Yuan JBoss Seam: Simplicity and Power Beyond Java EE 5.0
J Nusairat Beginning JBoss Seam: From Novice to Professional

Have you had any experience with these books? What's the difference between them?

PS. The book of course must cover Seam 2.X :)

Dan Allen Seam In Action - definitely the best. It is very well-written and certainly is the best choice. In fact it is the only book on Seam by now that worths reading.

As far as I know that is the only one out there which covers Seam2, it isn't really out yet though. But you can grab an e-book version of it while waiting.

I have the Seam in Action MEAP pdf.  Very decent.

don't get the nusairat or the farley books, waste of money.

best intro to Seam: ch 17. of bauer & king book.

the index to the first edition of the yuan book was very poor.

I have only read Dan Allen's Seam In Action, but I find it very good. Both the text flow and the samples are great.

The Seam manual is quite good just to read through, to get a feel for what's in Seam.

I bought all three, but I like Seam In Action best by far. An updated version of the e-book came out today. Sample chapters are available.

Although JBoss Seam: Simplicity and Power Beyond Java EE 5.0 is out-dated I still found it helpful. There is more information on the new version here.

I cannot recommend Beginning JBoss Seam: From Novice to Professional.

Does Dan Allen's book go deeper into the matter? Or is it just like most other books scratching the surface?

I've only read Yuan/Heute, it was OK. I'll probably do some shopping once the Seam2 alternatives go public

You can look forward to a chapter providing a good introduction to Web Beans for Seam developers in Seam Framework: Experience the Evolution of Java EE, but there is not a book dedicated to the subject as of yet ;)

I wonder why everyone applauds Seam in Action book. For me it was just an extension of the reference manual with dumb examples (crud and really simple stuff). There are so many shortcomings of the book that I posted my feedback on Dan's forum here but it looked like my feedback was not well received. I'm not saying it's a bad book but it's just not the best book to learn a radically new framework/technology like Seam and most importantly to understand the architecture or get deeper.

I've built an app completely from scratch in the past 5 months and most of what I learnt was from the manual, forums and from a fellow developer who worked on Seam for over a year now.

Well, it's a good thing that there are several books to choose from. One books approach and examples might be just right for one person while the other books approach might work better for someone else. Fortunately, most publishers and authors provide sample chapters so you can see the style of writing before buying.
