Background thread on user action

Hello together

Im searching for a possibility to start a user action within a background thread.

I have a longRunning transaction which needs 15 minutes to process some informations.
Now I want to start this transaction via a user action (for example a button click) but allow
the user to close the window and let the transaction run on the server like a job.

Is this possible?
What's the way to go?
