can't get the page navigation to work with conversations

ive got an app with about 8 or so different pageflow conversations in it.  i have a central menu page that asks what you want to do.  my problem is i can't get that page to start the conversations and navigate to the start page of the jbpm pageflow.  if i add the start page for the pageflow in the pages.xml, then it starts the first page but then ignores the pageflow file when it comes to the next and back buttons.

when i have a group of pages in a pageflow, are they supposed to be in the pages.xml too?  if now, how do i manage stuff like login required and details like that?

im kinda lost on this and have wasted a lot of time on it. im stuck

im making progress.  i deleted all the entries from the pages.xml and it seems that it kinda whats to work, but how do i start the conversation (the method with the @begin tag) from the pageflow file?  before i had it in the pages.xml? 

and it doesn't solve the problem of making the login required for the page.
