FacesMessages character encoding

in my seam app i use some faces messages which are generated by the program code.

unfortunately some special characters from these messages are not displayed properly.

for e.g. the german umlaute.

if i use messges from messages.properties everything is ok.

how could i get it work with the messages generated by code?

Maybe you should check the source file encoding. In Eclipse you will find it under General, Content Types then Java source File. From command line it is the -encoding argument of javac. There is a similar attribute in the javac Ant task.

i tried iso-8859-15 and UTF-8 with no success....
