Explicit login failure handling

Hi all,

I'm trying to create a more explicit feedback for failed logins. For starters I'd like to distinguish a login failure (wrong username password combination) from an internal failure (failure to connect to LDAP, ...), but I just can't seem to find anything on that topic.

On the other side I have a <rich:messages/> element somewhere in the sidebar which is on every page, but I'd like to show a custom error message in the main content area (either by adding another <rich:messages/> or by redirecting to that page, but I cannot find any way to hook into the login process.

Any ideas?

Regards to login, you can use the pages.xml file mapping different exceptions to each failure expected.
